Diving in The Cayman Islands is known for amazing wall dives, beautiful coral and the highest degree of visibility. It is often cited that the Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac) is the birthplace of recreational diving in the Caribbean, especially for wall diving. Grand Cayman has a north wall that plunges deeper than 1800 m (6000 ft) called the Cayman Trench. Along these dramatic walls you can find huge vase and barrel sponges, as well as the opportunity to see eagle rays and sea turtles swimming by in the blue.
The Cayman Islands offer a variety of dive sites and with little current, making diving for beginners very appealing. Many of the Cayman dive sites are accurately named for the dominant species found there: Snapper Hole, Hammerhead Hill and Stingray City are examples that are self-explanatory. There are a variety of sites with unique swim-throughs and beautiful rock formations. The Kittiwake, a former US submarine rescue ship has become the signature wreck, but there are several smaller ones to explore as well.
Grand Cayman also offers a unique sandbar site called Stingray City where snorkelers and divers interact with dozens of food-conditioned Southern stingrays. This is a unique experience is in a marine life interaction zone where you can swim, feed and mingle with these friendly rays.
